Pedestrian Crossing Design - Walker Street Castlemaine
Mount Alexander Shire Council is committed to maintaining, rehabilitating, and developing infrastructure in an efficient and timely manner to support the needs and enhance the liveability of the community.
In response to community feedback, Mount Alexander Shire Council is tasking the design of pedestrian crossing points and sealed footpath on Walker Street, Castlemaine. The crossing is to increase accessibility and safety for pedestrians visiting popular destinations: The Castlemaine Botanical Gardens and The Mill – a café/shopping/artisan studio precinct.
The project objective is to complete a design to construct a crossing treatment to increase pedestrian safety. Walker Street is challenged by deep table drains and a wide T intersection bordered by the main entrance to the gardens and a railway level crossing. There is one existing concrete footbridge that spans the table drain.
